Description: The Adventurous Mailbox is an international team of educators, writers, artists and designers invested in introducing children to different ways of thinking and being, while inspiring a curiosity to learn other languages, travel the world, and lead well-examined lives. We offer subscriptions to foreign adventures through the personal narrative of 12-year-old Crameye Junker. At the rate chosen at purchase, children will receive beautifully illustrated books stamped and postmarked from abroad. Each 50-60 page installment is written as a letter to the readers, introducing a featured country’s culture, language, mythology, and more, as well as an engrossing adventure. The individual stories follow an overarching storyline throughout the series. Stories can be purchased in a monthly mailed subscription, or via a specially designed USB key that allows exclusive access to the digital archive. In addition, children gain lifetime membership to The Adventurous Mailbox online community, which features the main characters’ daily blogs channeling world cultural information. Members can also interact with the characters, post questions, post their own adventures, compete in contests and quizzes for weekly prizes, and play our online game, Culture Cram. For use in schools or homeschool environments, we developed a curriculum that was professionally developed by licensed educators. Each book comes with an accompanying workbook designed according to the Common Core Standards in language arts and other subject-specific standards. The lessons range from vocabulary and reading comprehension, to project work and research activities. Additionally, The Adventurous Mailbox qualifies for educational funding, such as Title 1, Race to the Top, 21st Century Learning, and others. The stories also make an ideal gift for kids wanting to explore the world. Being that they were written to be equal parts education and entertainment, they are also a gift you can feel good about giving. We hope to inspire kids to develop a respectful curiosity about the world, and, in doing so, help them to prepare for their adult lives. We do not present beliefs, ideologies, and ways of living as moral imperatives, but rather just introduce them as what they are. We believe that the more kids know about different kinds of people, the better equipped they will be for adulthood. If we inspire children to travel abroad, learn other languages, or study different ways of thinking and being, well... that just makes this endeavor all the more rewarding.
