HOUSTON, TX - January 4, 2009 -- "This is the first competitive golf tournament we know of which combines medal play with an optional skins pool in the same event,” states Allen Baytes, executive director of the Texas Skins & Open Tour. "Our goal is to give professional and low handicap golfers an opportunity to compete and make a money in a regular tournament series while preparing for the Nationwide, Adams Golf Tour and other PGA qualifying tours,” added Baytes. "With so many good golfers right here in Texas, it only made sense to do something like this for our Texas golfers that would be fun, competitive and allow them to make a little money while pursuing their PGA golf dreams.”
With a full field of only 84 golfers, TSOT plans to pay out guaranteed prize money for first, second and third place winners of $1,000, $500 and $250 consecutively while also providing approximately $3,600.00 in prize money to the skins pool.
“This is a great idea,” states Joran Meeks, golf professional at Redstone Golf Club. “It could be very successful if everything is put together properly.”
Players will be able to register online to compete in six tournaments this year. The event also seeks to raise money for charitable causes.
The Texas Skins & Open Tour The Texas Skins and Open Tour (TSOT), is a subsidiary of Meadow Lake Marketing, LLC. TSOT will conduct professional golf tournaments in the Houston, TX metropolitan area. In addition to raising funds for charitable causes, the tour seeks to provide professional and amateur golfers the opportunity to compete and earn prize money while preparing for the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series, Nationwide Tour and other PGA qualifying events.
