Description:
The Company:
Paradigm Solar is a California based company in the business of providing alternative energy solutions for our clients. We design, install and maintain solar energy solutions that can be combined and integrated with the “grid” using mature and developing technologies.
We design, install and maintain solar energy collectors that can be combined with existing mature technologies to produce electricity. The advantage of our design is our collector size. They are a fraction of the size that one would find in Daggett or Kramer Junction, and doesn't require the large scale infrastructure. Because of this our Sun Farms may be installed in almost any location and serves as an excellent "peaker" unit at a fraction of the cost due to new trough materials that make these types of plants more cost effective. Because our sun farm depends on the suns heat to provide the energy; most locations where there is more sunshine are better suited as potential locations. For perspective, our sun farms work well in all 50 states in the US where cloud cover does not exceed 50% of the days in a given month, but ideally they would work best south of latitude 40 degrees North with a minimum DNI 3.5 hours
The Products:
Micro-CSP:
Our parabolic trough is unique because of its size, but more importantly its concentration ratio. With this increased concentration ratio were able to attain the required Delta T for the heat transfer fluid (HTFs: Therminol and Dowtherm product lines ) to pass through a heat exchanger that produces the heat to power this new technology.
Heat Storage System:
Our heat storage system enables the capture of the sun rays to be stored for future use. With this ability to capture and store free heat energy from the sun we now have the capability of producing 24/7 which makes affordable electricity to everyone. Because of this benefit sun farms can be installed within the areas already occupied by other energy producing or transmitting sites, such as Wind Farms, PV Cells, Geothermal, Waste Heat, or CNG at existing utility transmission right-of-ways.
Status of the Organization:
Currently Paradigm Solar is in Phase I of a III phase project. The land has been secured for this project and is personally owned by the founder of Paradigm Solar. The project site has been cleared of all obstructions and is being prepped for Phase I which is the installation of 50kW of wind power. The turbines are on location and are waiting for the foundation to be poured, the tower base installed, the cylinder that will raise and lower the tower for maintenance and inclement weather. The last part of this process will be the tower assembly which consist of three 20' tower sections measuring 16", 24", and 30" for each of the wind turbines with the tower being attacted to the tower last.
Phase II will include the installation of 50kW of PV at the same location.
Phase III will be the installation of a new technology that will require the use and installation of a Micro-CSP pilot plant using parabolic troughs that have been scaled down 1/10 the standard size with an increased concentration ratio as our many focus. The proof of concept for the trough design has been tested over a three month period heating a lap pool. Currently were working on the integration of the new technology with the accepted trough design.
A consulting contract is still in place with an entity based in Colorado to supply both parabolic troughs and the thermal heat storage unit for their existing installed units along with design work three projects in US (9MW, 22MW, 75MW ) and two international projects (10MW and a 40W). Our newest project includes a 75kW hybrid farm in San Diego County for a series of remote water wells.
