Description: The Grand Forks & Boundary Regional Agricultural Society was incorporated as a non-profit in March 2008. The main objective of this Society is to increase profitability and viability for regional farmers. The new meat regulation in British Columbia has made life extremely tough for local meat producers. The Society has put forward a plan to build a mobile abattoir. We have secured funding from Meat Transition Enhancement Program ($100,000.00) and the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust ($50,000.00) We recently met with Ron Duffel, Ministry for Healthy Living and Sport and Kathleen Gibson, B.C. Food Processors Association and Meat Transition Assistance Program (MTAP). This meeting was very helpful and encouraging. We also received our Class C License so meat producers can kill and slaughter animals on their own property. The next logical step is for the Ag Society is to build a cut/wrap facility so meat producers are able to sell their meat from farm gate, at local Farmer's Markets or to local restaurants. We are seeking investors who see the value in growing local food and promoting regional sustainability.
