Institutional Investor Definition

Institutional investor – n : term used for organizations possessing extremely large amounts of money, that make multiple financial investments and oversee their investment portfolio. Examples of institutional investors include pension funds, mutual funds, university endowments, foundations, insurance companies, corporate treasuries and money management firms.  Example: Most limited partner investors in large venture capital funds are institutional investors (as opposed to high-net -worth individuals).
